Title: The Docks of Icy Strait

Description: In the town of Hoonah, Alaska (also known as Icy Strait Point), largely a Tlingit community of Chichagof Island. Roughly 30 miles west of Juneau, across the Alaskan Inside Passage. These docks overlooking Port Frederick and are mainly used for crabbing boats now. The Tlingit is a First Nation of southern Alaska and northern British Columbia, in Canada. First contact with the Tlingit tribe is recorded in 1741 by Aleksei Chirikov (Russian expedition). They live along the coast and on nearby islands in the Pacific Ocean. The Tlingit traditionally got much of their food by fishing. They also hunted seals and sea otters and gathered wild berries and roots.

 A little known fact is the Tlingit were code talkers in World War 2! Usually, the Navajo Tribe gets most of the credit for their work as code talkers during the war. It was one of the only codes that the Japanese could not crack and enabled victory in the Pacific. In 2008, the Code Talkers Recognition Act revealed that many Tlingit men served as code talkers during the war.
